Very early maturity and well suited for open-staked fields and high-tunnel production. Rubee Dawn tomatoes are a great variety for the home and market gardener alike. Growing Information

Tomatoes are in the nightshade family along with peppers and eggplant. Plants in the nightshade family are susceptible to blossom end rot, which is a result of a calcium deficiency. To prevent or alleviate this problem, apply pelleted gypsum at the base of the plant at bloom set. Tomatoes do best when transplanted, as the germination time can be longer than most vegetable seed. They grow very well in our heavy-duty seed starting trays. Plants should be started 4-6 weeks before the intended outdoor planting date.

If conditions outside are favorable, transplants may be planted directly from our 162 cell trays. If conditions are still too cold for planting tomatoes, transplants may be "stepped-up" to 4" pots to allow more room to grow. Tomatoes can produce heavy fruits and will require some form of support to keep the plant upright. This ensures that plants and fruits stay off the ground, reducing the possibility of disease and keeping fruits clean.

Wow,what a burst of flavour in this tomato! I was blown away by the excellent flavour and texture. Smooth and silky with great rich tomato flavour and such a beautiful balance of sweet and tangy. They are also early early. The first 2 were ripe exactly 53 days from transplant. Even in a drought and unusually cold weather these tomatoes are ripening this early and taste and look amazing. The plants are loaded. They are only running 3-4oz for us,but I have a feeling under better conditions they would be much larger. We are having zero disease issues so far. The plants look picture perfect and so does the fruit. My one real complaint is the very thick tough skin. It's so thick and chewy you have to spit it out. It's disappointing considering what a great tomato this is in every other way. Overall though I still would strongly recommend this variety. For an early tomato it just can't be beat. Heirloom flavour and all of the benefits you get in a modern hybrid.
