Bailey II Peanut is one of the most popular Virginia-type varieties grown in the Carolinas and Virginia that is a heavy producer and has great disease resistance. A top choice for the home-gardener; a great variety to grow in the backyard garden to produce delicious, home-grown peanuts. It is widely-known for being a good roasting and boiling peanut variety. Plants have a bush growing habit and are generally upright, usually reaching about 1.5 feet tall. Bailey II is a productive variety that produces a significantly high percentage of extra-large pods. The majority of pods will have at least two peanuts, and plants will average about 120-130 peanuts per plant. Bailey II Peanut was released by a breeding program at NC State University. It combines exceptional productivity with a broad-range of disease resistance which includes Black Rot, Blight and Tomato Spotted Wilt Virus. It also has a high oleic acid content, which allows for longer storage potential after harvest.

Bailey II Peanut should be planted in spring after the last frost. Peanuts grow best in well-drained soil and Seeds should be planted about 4" apart, 1.5" deep along the row. One pound of seed should be sufficient for planting a 100' row. Peanuts have a long date-to-maturity and need at least 4-5 months of frost-free weather to mature properly. Peanuts may be planted with a walk-behind planter like our Hoss Garden Seeder. We suggest using a #6 seed plate and modifying the hole size to match the seed being planted. Peanuts will need adequate water throughout the warm growing season. As a result, drip irrigation is a great option for peanuts. We suggest burying drip tape and planting double rows on each side of the tape. Minimizing leaf moisture will tremendously help to reduce disease pressure.

They look great, nice that they’re already peeled. But it’s still too cold here to plant anything but onions, peas, cabbage etc.

I bought a bag of these last growing season. I planted half the bag excellent germination and production. I plant the other half of the bag this growing season. Excellent germination! I have had a great experience with Hoss seeds!
