Red Dragon Lettuce is an oak leaf heirloom variety that features beautiful burgundy red, deeply lobed leaves that are green at the base. Known for its nutty, sweet, mellow flavor, it is a popular choice for commercial and home gardeners alike. Lactuca sativa. 45 days to maturity.

Red Dragon Lettuce is an oak leaf heirloom variety that provides brilliant color from the garden to the plate. Heads contain dark red leaves that are deeply lobed and resemble oak leaves. The baby leaves are very shiny and have smooth edges and have a nutty flavor when added to a baby lettuce mix. Red Dragon Lettuce produce heads that can get as large as 8″ tall and 12″ wide. It is very heat and drought tolerant and thrives in partial shade. It can be used as a cut and come again crop with multiple harvests or wait for the full head to grow.

Red Dragon Lettuce performs best when transplanted. Transplanting allows for more consistent plant spacing and prevents seedlings from competing with weeds in the early stages of the plant. We recommend starting transplants 3-4 weeks before the desired outdoor planting date. Thin plants to one seed per cell to ensure adequate growing space. Salad Bowl Red transplants grow great in our heavy-duty seed starting trays, where they develop a solid root ball with roots that are trained to grow downward. Lettuce transplants will need adequate fertilization once seedlings form the first set of true leaves. We recommend injecting 20-20-2o through the seedling watering system at least once a week to ensure plants are sufficiently fed. This can be done easily with our Brass Siphon Mixer and a five gallon bucket. Plants are ready to go in the ground when they can be easily pulled from the cells in the seed starting tray.
