Description

Purple Coneflower is by far the most popular variety of coneflower. With beautiful purple blooms, this variety is great for pollinators and medicinal uses alike. Native to North America, these plants are hardy, drought-tolerant, and long blooming. The flowers have daisy-like features made up of several small petals. Having a fibrous root system makes it more adaptable to most any garden conditions. Echinacea purpurea. 120 days to maturity. 1 gram (approx. 1,550 Seeds per gram)

Plants vary in size, reaching from 2 to 5 feet tall and 1 to 2 feet wide. Purple Coneflower requires full sun or partial shade; the soil type is best well-drained with a neutral to acidic soil pH. Pruning your coneflowers is always helpful but not necessary, although deadheading the blooms will keep them in bloom all summer long. Seeds tend to germinate best under "cold stratification"; direct sow the Seeds outdoors in the fall. They do tend to thrive in soil with high organic matter, if you fertilize too much they can become "leggy". You should add fresh compost each spring to give them the nutrition they need for healthy blooms and leaves. Try adding the Complete Organic Fertilizer each spring.
