Description

Nasturtiums are a great addition to any garden and have many uses. They are well-known for their edible leaves and flowers which have a tangy, peppery taste. The blooms make a nice addition to salads and are frequently used by chefs to garnish and brighten dishes.

The beautiful flowers are also great for attracting bees, other beneficial insects, and even hummingbirds to your gardens. This is a great flower variety to interplant in the vegetable garden to attract bees and improve pollination on squash, cucumbers, melons, and other crops that require pollinators. They'll also help to provide an all-natural source of pest control as they attract beneficial insects that prey on pests.

Nasturtiums are one of the easiest flowers to grow due to their drought-tolerance and ease of direct-seeding. While they can be grown from transplants, the Seeds usually germinate easily through direct-seeding in rows or sprinkling in containers. Lightly cover the Seeds with soil and keep the soil moist for optimal germination. Seeds will germinate best in soils that have warmed in spring.

Beautiful Edible Blooms

These jewel Nasturtiums are gorgeous when they're in bloom with lovely flowers in colors of orange, yellow and deep red. I grow them every year for their sunny colors, trailing habits, and as edible blossoms for my meals. They taste peppery, so a few added to salads is delightful, or as eye-catching garnishes. The seeds are large, easy to plant and do well in hanging baskets.
