Description
Baby Leaf Lettuce Mix is a beautiful blend of several colors, shapes and textures to provide the perfect gourmet spring lettuce mix. It includes red, dark green and light green leaves for a great color contrast. Some leaves are smooth while others are incised. There's also a nice contrast of textures with some leaves being crisp and others being more delicate. This is a great blend for creating your favorite spring salad with fresh vegetables and fruits from the garden.
Baby Leaf Lettuce Mix should be direct-seeded. This can be done easily by hand. If planting a single row, make a small furrow in the soil and sprinkle seeds liberally along that furrow. Then lightly cover the seeds to close the furrow. Keep seeds wet throughout the germination process.
It can also be planted densely in a larger bed. This continuous planting style will usually provide the best results. Designate a 2' to 3' wide bed and scatter seeds liberally along the bed. Lightly rake the seeds into the soil or cover with a light layer of compost. This will ensure good seed to soil contact for optimal germination. The dense planting will also help to shade any new weed development and also make harvesting easier. Baby Leaf lettuce is ideal for any size garden and performs well in raised beds as well as in-ground gardens.
Our Baby Leaf Lettuce Mix is a "cut and come again" type crop that will produce significant harvests several times throughout the growing season. Take a small paring knife and cut the small leaves off the plants, leaving the roots and base of the plants in tact. Once harvested, the leaves will regrow and produce continuous harvests throughout the growing season.
