Sungold Dwarf Sunflower

$399

Sungold Dwarf Sunflower is a double-bloom variety with plants that reach 2-3′ tall. Velvety, lush heads with petals covering the entire flower face. Great for containers or raised beds. Helianthus. 80 days to maturity.

Description

Sungold Dwarf Sunflower is a shorter sunflower variety that grows to 2-3' tall. Plants produce loads of 4" double blooms that have yellow petals all the way towards the center of the flower head. Blooms have a soft texture and are similar to the Teddy Bear variety. Dwarf sunflowers are great for raised beds or containers where a shorter plant height may be desired. Because the plants are shorter, the stems don't bend as they do on traditional, taller varieties. They also make a great border plant and are fun to grow with children. Plant these in front of taller sunflowers to make a beautiful staggered display. Plants have strong stems which make it a great cut flower variety as well.

Sungold Dwarf Sunflower can be direct-seeded or transplanted. Direct-seeding can be easily done with a walk-behind planter like our Hoss Garden Seeder. We recommend using a #3 seed plate and modifying the hole size to fit the variety being planted. Sunflower seed size can vary greatly from one variety to the next, therefore it's important to always calibrate the seed plate hole size for the variety being planted. Sunflowers grow well when planted on double rows with drip irrigation. Lay one row of drip tape and plant on both sides of the tape to maximize garden space.

Sunflowers also perform well when transplanted. They grow great in our heavy-duty seed starting trays. Transplants are ready to go in the ground when plants can be easily pulled from the seed starting trays. For increased storage potential, harvest sunflowers when blooms are closed. Blooms will then open when cut and placed into a container with water.
