Description

Check out our Corn Growing Guide to learn more about how to grow corn in your garden.

Nirvana Sweet Corn is a hybrid sweet corn variety with exceptional vigor, taste, and texture. This is an augmented supersweet (shA) variety, which means it contains both supersweet (sh2) and sugary-enhanced (se) kernels on the same ear. The supersweet kernels provide the sweetness and excellent storage ability, while the sugary-enhanced kernels provide a tender texture to the kernels

Nirvana Sweet Corn produces extremely vigorous plants with fast emergence. Because the ears contain primarily supersweet kernels, soil temps should be at least 60 degrees before planting. Nirvana will store well after harvesting and holds well in the field for an extended harvest window. The ears snap off the stalks easily for quick harvesting.

Sweet corn should be planted in the spring after the last frost date. Sweet corn can be grown throughout the warmer months up until fall, as long as time is permitted for harvest before first frost. Succession planting is recommended with at least two plantings, one in early spring and one in late summer/early fall. Corn ear worm pressure will be greater in the warmer months, but this can be alleviated by applying spinosad to silks and tassels once they appear.

We recommend planting sweet corn using a walk-behind planter like our Hoss Garden Seeder. Once plants emerge, thin plants to 6-8" depending on adequate irrigation. If drip irrigation is used, in-row spacing may be as close as 6". If water is scarce, a wider in-row spacing will be necessary. For pollination purposes, corn should be planted in a square plot with rows on 30-36" spacing. Planting a few long rows will result in poor germination and absence of kernels on the cobs.

I really like this variety. It's productive, consistent and delicious. Kernels have a very nice bit of juiciness to them and it's sweet and packed full of corn flavour. The kernels are some of the most tender I've tried. If you sell corn your customers will love it too. We trialed it for the first time this past year and got nothing but great feed back on it. I will definitely be growing it again.

This is our garden's new permanent resident. By far the sweetest corn my wife and I have ever had. It really borders on candy sweet, so if you like a more savory classic corn flavor, this probably isn't the variety for you. Kernels were full and very crisp for a great bite. Seed germinated well and the plants grew strong on drip tape even when planted on 6" spacing.
