Our California Knife is our preferred tool for harvesting large vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower, lettuce, cabbage and more! This high-quality harvesting knife has a rounded blade that makes it easy to slice and cut through the thickest stalks. You can use this knife to slice like a traditional knife, or use the rounded edge to push through the head for easy harvesting.
The California Knife has a 5.5″ long, rounded blade made with 1095 high carbon steel. This is the preferred steel for knives and other cutting tools around the garden and homestead. Unlike cheap cutting tools made with super-hard “surgical steel,” high carbon steel blades will have a sharper blade and are much easier to sharpen after repeated use.
Because the blade is made with high carbon steel, it will rust if exposed to moisture for prolonged periods of time. We recommend cleaning the knife after each use and storing it in a dry location. The knife is sharpened, ready to use, and includes a sheath for protecting the blade when not in use. Periodically apply mineral oil or linseed oil to the blade to protect and keep it conditioned for prolonged use.
The California Knife includes a 4.5″ hickory handle that provides a solid grip and is comfortable to use for extended periods of harvesting. The handle has a “full tang” design where the base of the blade extends throughout the entire length of the handle. Use our 12″ Farmers File to keep the blade honed, sharp and ready to use!
