All Top Hybrid Turnip F1

$399

All Top Turnip is the perfect variety for those who want to grow heavy-yields of delicious turnip greens. No turnip roots here — just thick, large leaves that can be cut multiple times. Brassica rapa subsp. rapa. 50 days to maturity.

120,000 seeds per lb

Description

The name says it all! All Top Turnip is "all top." This variety produces high yields of large, delicious greens. Plants are densely packed with large, smooth, green leaves. This is a "cut and come again" type crop, meaning it can be harvested many times throughout the growing season. Although the roots are inedible, All Top Turnip has a strong root system that can withstand multiple harvests. It has a vigorous regrowth and will continue to produce large harvests of greens after multiple cuttings. This is a great turnip variety for raw preparations in salads, but also tastes great when prepared in a traditional turnip green dish. Leaves may be harvested as baby turnip leaves or allowed to reach full size. For baby leaf turnips, date to maturity is only 35 days. For larger leaves, date to maturity is around 50 days.

Growing Information

We recommend direct-seeding turnips for best results. They can be direct-seeded easily with a walk-behind planter like our Hoss Garden Seeder. We suggest using a #1 seed plate and modifying the hole size to fit the variety being planted. From one variety to the next, seed size will vary. Therefore it is always necessary to calibrate the seed plate properly for the variety being used. The density of planting will depend on the desired harvest. In some cases large bunches of leaves may be the goal, while other growers may target larger roots. If large bunches of leaves are desired, turnips may be planted densely where roots will remain small and leaves will grow large. If larger roots are desired, plant less dense or thin to one plant every 4″.

I'm new to gardening so I'm trying to grow different things to see what we enjoy growing and what we can actually grow and get to the harvest. Had some failures and some success but these All Top Turnips are by far our favorite so far. So easy to grow plus we keep harvesting them and they just keep coming back for more harvests. I think we are on our 4th harvest. And man they are good to eat! I highly recommend you give them a shot.
